BSC Expo 2014

The BSC expo is a showcase of the latest products and services available to the film and tv production industry. Visitors to the BSC Expo 2014 saw the latest Camera Equipment, Grip & Support Services, Lighting Equipment, Location Services, Production Services & Facilities, Sound Equipment, Visual Effects and all the new technologies under one roof.

Exhibitors included a host of Global suppliers from UK, Germany, France, Belgium and USA to name just a few. There was also a comprehensive seminar and workshop programme.

AMIRA_350pxARRI showed the much anticipated ARRI AMIRA camera on their stand. This is a documentary-style camera that records HD1080 or 2K images onto in-camera CFast 2.0 flash memory cards. Combining the same sensor as the ALEXA with affordable CFast 2.0 workflows and an ergonomic design optimised for single-operator use, this camera is still set to make a big impact on the industry. What effect this will have on the current market for the Sony F55 or F5 will remain to be seen. It certainly looks like ARRI have been listening to what a number of camera operators have been asking for.

The CVP Group stand featured a great selection of products including the stunning Angenieux 25-250mm PL DP Lens

Angenieux-25250dp_300pxThe 25-250mm range gives great flexibility and is mainly directed at natural history productions for this exact reason. It features an integrated filter and net holders and can be sold with adaptors to EF, F or Panavision mounts. Due to its size this lens needs to be bars supported and mounted on a heavy duty tripod. With a fast aperture of T:3.5, no ramping, minimal breathing the Optimo DP 25-250 offers optimized optical quality with low chromatic aberration, telecentricity and low distorsion, ideal for high performance S35 digital cameras.

The focus scale ring with precise focus marks is easily interchangeable from feet to meters. The lens integrates filter and net holders and is compatible with technology metadata system. The Optimo DP 25-250 is a standard PL mount lens. Panavision, Canon EF and Nikon F mounts are optional. The Optimo DP 25-250 can be equipped with 1.4x and 2x Optimo extenders to become a 35-350mm or a 50-500mm.

We are really interested in the further developments of Timecode Buddy, which can Sync picture and sound across single, multi-camera and DSLR recording formats with absolute simplicity and precision, completely wirelessly.

Timecode-Buddy_300pxTimecode Buddy is based on three core products:

Timecode Buddy: wifi master: A timecode and TV sync generator and multi-channel ISM BAND RF timecode transceiver with powerful additional WiFi features

Timecode Buddy: mini trx (released end of June 2013): All the functionality of the Timecode Buddy: wifi master but without the wifi, which means it’s much smaller

Timecode Buddy: mini tx: A multi-channel timecode transmitter broadcasting incoming timecode over a robust RF signal.

BSC Expo is a great, compact show for anyone looking to purchase acquisition kit and take in some of the seminar content. Perhaps for those not looking to get too heavily into post production solutions and more focused on the front end.

We are really looking forward to further announcements from manufacturers at NAB 2014 this April, which we will be tweeting live from the show and posting a full report shortly after. Watch this space!
