Nokia Technologies wowed Hall 8 at IBC with both fantastic demonstrations of Virtual Reality through head mounted displays, plus quality talks on the stand. Case studies from UEFA in teh sports world and live examples covering a Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert were fascinating. Both provided an amazing insight into 360 shooting and the powerful but natural offering by using an OZO camera.

Shooting Partners have invested in the OZO and can provide a bespoke kit for all 360 shooting scenarios. We will be publishing case studies in the near future.
The last couple of years have seen amazing progress in cinematic VR, 360-degree video, immersive video and panoramic video. New for IBC2016, was the IBC Future Reality Theatre. This brought attendees a free to attend programme of presentations, panel discussions and live demos to inspire and provoke.

Canon brought an amazing new camera offering to the show floor at IBC 2016 in the form of the superb EOS C700.

A brand new addition to the Canon Cinema Camera family, the Canon EOS C700 is a flexible, robust and highly capable primary 4K camera. An ideal solution for commercials, dramas, independent film and documentary that is configurable for various production workflows. The camera includes support for HDR monitoring.

The Canon EOS C700 offers two sensor design options; Canon’s Super 35mm 4.5K CMOS sensor with 15 stops of dynamic range, offered in both the PL and EF mount versions, with the EF mount featuring Dual Pixel CMOS AF Technology. The camera has global shutter technology, which is ideal for sports, quick action, live concerts and events; where the ‘wobble’ effect is eradicated. The effect of ‘wobble’ or ‘jello’ effect is where straight lines appear wavy. By capturing the image at once, the occurrence of this happening is greatly reduced.

The EOS C700 features a new full size design allowing for both traditional studio style and handheld configurations. The camera body has built in cheese plates with various 3/8-16 and 1/4-20 threaded holes on the top and bottom to easily attach vital accessories. The top handle attaches in multiple positions for assisting in achieving optimum balance.

Which is Canon’s first professional grade viewfinder; featuring Full HD 1920×1080 viewing, surround view, view assist and false colour. The EVF also has the ability to display an HDR simulated picture with a “stretched” dynamic range for increased shadow detail and highlight retention.

Both sides of the camera can have redundant main displays with menus and controls. A built in control panel on the camera operator side allows quick access to the camera controls. Canon’s optional new Remote Operation Unit OU-700 attaches to the camera’s right side and mimics the functions of the built-in Main Display. It conveniently flips up for access to the CFast and SD card slots. This allows for camera operation from both sides of the camera making camera adjustment easy for both operator and assistant.

Canon also announced the fantastic, compact XC15. This is the updated version of the Canon XC10, the only difference from its older brother is the addition of the MA-400 Audio pack, and associated port on the camera body. The module is quite large but give you  two valuable XLR inputs (with +48v).  The XC15 boasts excellent Frame rates of 24.00P / 25P in 4K UHD, and up to 50P in Full HD, together with the versatile XF-AVC file format and a Cinema EOS ‘Look’ setting, make it easy to integrate footage into film workflows, while a built-in waveform monitor provides confidence in the image exposure during capture.
