Canon-C300-Mark-II_350pxCanon C300 Mark II

Canon launched numerous new cameras, kicking off with the EOS C300 Mark II.  The new Canon-designed Super 35mm CMOS sensor and an increased ISO range up to ISO 102,400 deliver exceptional low light performance, allowing operators to capture low-noise footage across a variety of challenging environments without compromising on image quality.

The C300 MK II has the ability to record 10-bit 4:2:2 files internally at up to 410Mbps in 4K, or 10/12-bit 4:4:4 files in 2K/Full HD,withup to 15 stops of dynamic range, the EOS C300 Mark II provides footage suitable for extensive post-production work, producing crisper images across the full colour spectrum with reduced “colour bleed”. There are several really nice touches to the design also, such as back-lit buttons.

The on-board recording adopts a similar fashion to the output of a C500 (except no need for separate recorder), so this is a great upgrade. Familiar EF Mount means no change needed for lenses and the Dual DIGIC DV5 Processors and 35mm CMOS Sensor make this a powerful upgrade. If that’s not enough adding 15-Stops of Dynamic Range surely sets this new camera apart from it’s predecessor.

Not to be out done the little brother in the EOS range, the Canon C100 also got an upgrade. The Canon EOS C100 Mark II was also launched at NAB 2015.

The Canon EOS C100 Mark II Digital HD Camera offers all of the advantages of its predecessor while adding advanced new imaging and operational features by popular demand. Optimized for one-person use and compatible with the full range of Canon EF, EF-S, and EF-mount CN-E Cinema lenses, this greatly evolved camera integrates the same Emmy®-Award winning Canon Super 35mm CMOS Sensor used in all of Canon’s Cinema EOS cameras, but now replaces the Canon DIGIC DV III Image Processor with the more sophisticated Canon DIGIC DV 4 Image Processor. In addition to improved RGB video processing, the camera’s dual codec capability supports simultaneous AVCHD and MP4 recording, including 59.94P capture along with slow and fast motion recording. Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Face AF, wireless FTP video transfer, a built-in Canon Log LUT, GPS support and support for an extensive range of workflows, are additional operational features that have been added. A re-designed 270-degree rotating 3.5-inch OLED panel, and a tilt-able large-size EVF with large-size eye cup, further empower the camera operator.

Blackmagic-Ursa-Min_350pxBlackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K EF

Blackmagic Design introduced the URSA Mini, a lightweight miniaturized URSA featuring an incredible 4.6K Super 35 image sensor with global shutter and a massive 15 stops of dynamic range! The super compact and lightweight design is perfectly balanced for handheld use and comfortable enough for all day shooting. That means you get a handheld camera with higher resolution and better dynamic range than most Super 35mm film! URSA Mini shoots up to 60 frames per second, has a super bright 5 inch foldout viewfinder, dual RAW and ProRes recorders and more. You can select from four models of URSA Mini with 4.6K or 4K image sensors and either EF or PL lens mounts.

blackmagicmicro_350pxBlackmagic also introduced the Micro HD Cinema Camera. This new camera is a miniaturized Super 16mm, professional digital film camera that is designed to be operated remotely and capture action anywhere!. A revolutionary built in expansion port has PWM and S.Bus inputs so you can use a model airplane remote control to operate the camera wirelessly.

The Micro Cinema Camera is a true digital film camera that features built in RAW and ProRes recording, 13 stops of dynamic range, a global shutter and an MFT lens mount. This can be used in conjunction with the Blackmagic Video Assist.

The Video Assist has is a 5 inch Full HD Touchscreen Monitor with Built in ProRes and DNxHD Recorder. The built in recorder uses high speed SD cards to record professional files with incredible quality and 10 bit color depth. Blackmagic Video Assist works with any camera where you need better monitoring and more professional high quality file recording.

Small-HD_300pxIn the same field of portable recorders Small HD announced a fantastic new product called the 502 field monitor. The on-camera monitor features a Full HD, 1920×1080 LCD display. With a pixel density greater thanthe iPhone 6, the 502 is the sharpest 5-inch camera-top monitor in the world. As far as color and contrast are concerned, the 5-inch display is again, best-in-class. The 502’s LCD display is able to produce 85% NTSC Color Gamut (greater than the REC. 709 color standard), rivaling the color capabilities of OLED technology.

Sony PXW-X320 and PWS-100RX for low cost live streaming

Sony PXW X320Sony added to the ever popular XDCAM range with the new shoulder mount camera the PXW-X320. Expanding on the latest innovations in codecs and file management within a trusted XDCAM workflow, the PXW-X320 is a SxS memory camcorder which inherits operability from the PMW-320. The camera comes equipped with an updated sensitivity based on three 1/2-inch-type Full-HD Exmor CMOS sensors and an extremely high S/N ratio, also with Flash Band Reducer feature to provide outstanding picture quality.

The PXW-X320 supports XAVC, MPEG HD422, MPEG HD, MPEG IMX, and DVCAM. Two HD/SD-SDI, HDMI, i.LINK™, and composite outputs provide a wide range of AV and IT interfaces. The PXW-X320 also supports wireless operation using an optional adapter, the CBK-WA101. This enables easy and quick clip data transmission to a receiver, saving the time and transportation cost of shot clip delivery.

As a follow on in wireless network chain Sony also announced the Sony PWS-100RX1 Network RX station. This wireless solution offers high-quality live streaming at low cost and offers a receiver option for users wanting to move content quickly.

Sony PWS 100RX1The PWS-100RX1 network RX station is an advanced system for cost efficient live streaming video and audio direct from XDCAM camcorders using 4G/LTE and Wi-Fi networks. The system uses Sony’s unique QoS (quality of service) technology or MPEG2-TS to maintain video and audio integrity during transmission.

Each PWS-100RX1 unit can simultaneously control two SDI outputs: these can be used to live stream from two locations at the same time. Multiple systems can be added for greater input and output loads. The unit includes reference and timecode input connectors, which enable synchronised operation with broadcast systems. In addition, it can output in a variety of broadcast formats, including 1080i and 720p.
